There were approximately 95 million votes cast in 2000. There are reportedly 80 million gun owners in this country. Did 50 million gun owners vote for Gore? I kind of doubt it. We can therefore guess that approximately half the gun owners in this country didn’t even bother to vote in an election in which their very right to own a gun was in question. We can do better than this, people. We must.

The Fat Lady Sung, I Think...
Perhaps it's the morbid fascination which makes us unable to turn our eyes away when the coup de grace is administered to a wounded animal, but I watched the Vice President's concession speech. My personal distaste for him hasn't changed, nor has my profound objection to many of the policies he espoused, but I thought he did a good job. more...

Jacksonville police: Son fatally shot man attacking his father
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A son paying a surprise visit may have saved his father's life by fatally shooting a man who was choking him, police said. When Dwayne McDowell Smith, 31, drove to his father"s house Friday, he found his father struggling with a younger man in the yard, police said. He retrieved a gun from his car and shot the man in the shoulder, killing him. "He grabbed me with a choke hold and we scuffled for about three minutes when my son came up and I said, "Shoot him Dwayne," and he did," said James McDowell Smith, 66. He said he did not know the assailant or the motive for the attack. Police have not filed charges against Dwayne Smith.

How Long Does it Take to Die?
One of the arguments the gun-banners use is that victims of crime should call police and let the authorities handle the situation. As James Brady said, "For defense of the home--that's why we have police departments." An examination of two cases, however, would seem to put the lie to that statement.

Send Lawyers Guns and Money...
Here in Kentucky, gun rights played a pivotal role in two House races. In the 4th District, Democrat Ken Lucas courageously distanced himself from the Gore machine and even refused to attend the Democratic convention because of his opposition to the Democratic positions on the 2nd Amendment and tobacco. In the 6th District, pro-2nd Republican Ernie Fletcher handily defeated Democrat Scotty Baesler. Independent Gatewood Galbraith, a strong 2nd Amendment proponent, garnered 12% of the vote, leaving Besler with a measly 35% of the vote. This victory was particularly sweet since the political veteran Baesler had campaigned on a gun control platform and had received significant funding from Handgun Control, Inc. and their allies.

Congratulations Ernie, Atta-boy Ken, Honorable Mention to Gatewood and IN YOUR FACE HCI!

Let Wal-Mart Know What You Think
Time to jump on this one, folks! Wal-Mart has agreed under pressure from Million Moron March Moms and other hoplophobes NOT to sell guns at a new store in Tampa because it's "near" a high school! If they knuckle under because they haven't heard from the average Joes and Jills who support them then this could spread nation-wide! Call this number and give them a (polite) readout of how you feel on the subject and let them know that we expect them not to knuckle under to the flakes - Charles.

Thoughts on the Million Mom March Convention in Denver
The first Million Mom March National Convention took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Denver Colorado on Friday September 15th and Saturday, September 16th. What we saw and what we learned opened our eyes wide to the enormous threat that we are facing from those who would trash the Bill Of Rights and take away our guns, in the name of "protecting the children".
