The 2006 Kentucky
Coalition to Carry Concealed, Inc. Annual Meeting of the Membership
TEN YEARS OF LEGAL
CONCEALED CARRY
IN KENTUCKY!!
Another year has passed us
by and an historic era has only just begun. Ten years of legal
concealed carry in KY is no longer a dream, it is now part of history.
The last decade has turned out to be everything we expected it to be
with regard to the privilege of Kentuckians to provide for
their own personal protection. No gutters running with blood, no
shootouts in the grocery store parking lot because somebody got beat
out of a parking space. And, well, I haven't heard of anything
even remotely close to resembling the OK Corral incident! In
fact, there were almost none of the bloody scenarios put forth by the
opponents of the 1996 House Bill 40 that have come to pass since our
concealed carry law was enacted.
KC3 spent the afternoon of
May 20 celebrating the lack of terrible events while the media hasn't
even bothered to bring it up. Oh well, we carried on without
them! A number of our faithful members walked away with a share
of nearly $1000 worth of gifts just for coming to participate in the
festivities. We gave away cases of ammunition, at least one
example of every deadly weapon described by KY statutes, gift
certificates for training and range time, books, holsters and more.
We even made one lucky member very happy with a Taurus PT-111
Millennium Pro 9MM semi-automatic pistol!
Lunch turned out to be better than we
dared hope for. Fire Fresh BBQ of Shelbyville provided an
absolutely delicious lunch for our members consisting of smoked
chicken and pulled pork along with several sides. EXCELLENT
vittles if I do say so myself!! After all that, we satisfied
everybody's sweet tooth with an aptly decorated celebratory cake.
After lunch the membership fulfilled their
duty and elected several Board Members to new terms. Jerry Geise
was re-elected as a Director to a new three year term and Joe Kalil,
who was appointed by the Board of Directors since the last Annual
Meeting of the Membership, was also elected to a three year term.
The Board of Directors met after the membership meeting and elected
the corporations' officers as follows:
President - Jim Dixon
1st Vice President - James R.
Hall
2nd Vice President - C.
Michael Stapleton
Secretary / Treasurer - Robert
Jaynes
In addition to everything else, we drew
the winner of our annual raffle. This year we gave away a
stainless Smith & Wesson Model 500 Revolver with a 4" barrel chambered
for the new S&W .50 caliber magnum cartridge. The lucky winner
was S. C. Moseley. We wish him many years of enjoyment out of
the new addition to his collection. (And we hope he has enough
disposable income to be able to fill the cavernous throat the thing
has!!)
After all the festivities were over, we
announced the object of the KC3 2007 raffle. We made the choice
several months before the meeting so we could make the purchase and
get the tickets printed and in the meantime The American Rifleman
decided to designate our very pick as the Gun of the Year for 2006!
We are pleased to announce we are raffling away a Springfield XD 45,
with a few nice accessories, to be drawn at the 2007 KC3 Annual
Meeting of the Membership.
The Annual Meeting of the Board of
Directors immediately followed the membership meeting.
What's next? As I
noted previously, carrying a weapon for defense of yourself and your
loved ones, not to mention the rest of society, is still nothing less
than a privilege. We hope to change that by removing the
necessity of obtaining a license in order to carry concealed.
Criminals aren't required to put out $150, submit to background checks
or take training classes to carry a gun. There is no restriction
on where they carry so long as they don't get caught. You and I
don't have that luxury and when we do get caught at odds with the law,
we'll be prosecuted primarily on that offense simply because we won't
be committing a myriad of other crimes at the same time.
Comparatively, if a criminal is caught carrying a concealed weapon, it
is likely the charge won't even be pursued since there will be other
more serious crimes to prosecute. Even if convicted, the
criminal will serve the sentence concurrently with other crimes which
is ultimately meaningless.
Hopefully, we'll be able to
celebrate the problem free implementation of license free CCDW
at our 20th anniversary. It's something to look forward to!
The gracious support of the following
sponsors helped make our Annual Meeting of the Membership possible.
Please thank them with your patronage
