Hall Of Fame
It seems the signs declaring "NO CONCEALED WEAPONS"
are coming down. The vast majority of Kentucky's retail stores are
now open to people legally carrying concealed weapons. As
such, we simply cannot begin to list the multitude of businesses
that deserve to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Instead, we
have decided to dedicate this page to the thousands of store owners
and managers who have come to trust their fellow citizens with the
simple tools of self-defense.
Most likely, the news headlines prompted a great deal of political
correctness when the law was first enacted and now store managers
have decided to quietly remove the signs since the spotlight has
been turned toward some other “social disorder.” It seems like
the general population has a very short attention span, and if
something isn't the news media's plight of the hour, it just isn't
worth worrying about. Maybe it’s because the first substantial
report on Kentucky’s concealed carry initiative, published the fall
of 2000, was very positive. It's really not too much of a
stretch to assume that some people just needed proof that KY hadn't
reverted to the frontier days with frequent gun fights between newly
armed citizens. Whatever the
reason, we need to thank store owners and managers for relegating
their restrictive policies and signs to the history heap and opening
their doors to us. But we also need to politely remind those
few businesses that continue to provide victim rich environments
that they are losing our money to their competitors as a matter of
fact. We recommend that before making that trip across town to
make a purchase, call the store and ask if concealed carry is
prohibited inside the store. Likewise, always ask when making
price or availability inquiries. If they say yes, ask if they
will waive the policy (especially if you are making a large
purchase), and if not, tell them you will go someplace else to spend
your money. If you find a
business that continues to post against concealed carry, let us know
as soon as possible and we'll see if we can convince them to remove
the prohibition. Please keep in mind though, that businesses
open to the public are much more open-minded than those without a
walk-in clientele.
Just like all of the businesses that
never posted against concealed carry in the first place, businesses
that have since dropped their restriction deserve our praise AND, by
all means, our support as consumers. True Hall Of Famers they
are, ALL of them! |
